Sentido Heritance Negombo is marking its 10th anniversary with Decade One, a campaign that celebrates the first chapter of a hotel shaped by the coast, the community, and the distinct character of Negombo. More than a milestone, this campaign reflects on how the property has developed over the past decade and looks ahead to what comes next

Since opening in April 2016, the beachfront hotel has evolved into one of Negombo’s defining hospitality destinations. Set on 6.5 acres by the sea, the property has built its reputation on contemporary coastal stays, strong culinary identity, and a guest experience rooted in the local spirit of Negombo. It earned LEED certification in March 2016, achieved five-star classification later that year, and has continued to build on its early momentum with further accolades for design, culinary offerings, and sustainable practices.

At the heart of this journey has been a close relationship with the people and culture of Negombo. From fishermen and catamaran sailors to toddy tappers, artisans, producers, and local suppliers, the hotel has long drawn from the surrounding community to shape the experiences of its guests. Over time, this has positioned Sentido Heritance Negombo as more than simply a place to stay. It has become a strong ambassador for Negombo, bringing the town’s coastal identity, traditions, and warmth to an international audience.

That role is especially visible through gastronomy. Over the past decade, the hotel has helped spotlight Negombo’s seafood heritage through vibrant menus and dining experiences that translate local ingredients and coastal flavours for global travellers. Its culinary direction has also continued to evolve, most recently with the opening of Iguana Cantina in December 2025, introducing what has been positioned as the first Mexican restaurant in Negombo and adding a new dimension to the town’s dining scene.

The hotel’s focus also extends beyond hospitality with a continued emphasis on responsible tourism, community wellbeing, and engaged local impact. In 2025 alone, the property conducted a tourism talent awareness session for 100 students, carried out public beach clean-up initiatives in Negombo, supported the National Blood Bank through a blood donation campaign with over 60 donors, ran community almsgiving programmes, and implemented a skills-based initiative that directly supported a local king coconut vendor. Additionally, the hotel achieved its 2025 target of reducing CO2 emissions per room night by 5 percent, while continuing to hold both Travelife Gold and LEED Gold credentials.

Ranjan Stanislaus, Executive Director – General Manager, Sentido Heritance Negombo commented “What makes these ten years truly special is seeing so many guests return time and again. It is a quiet testament to the consistency, authentic hospitality and sense of belonging offered by our hotel. Over the past decade, we have witnessed how Sentido Heritance Negombo has grown by staying connected to its surroundings; to the coast, to the community, and to the values that define responsible hospitality.”.

Susith Jayawickrema, Managing Director, Aitken Spence Hotels said, “As we mark this milestone, we do so with profound gratitude to our teams, our guests, and our partners, confident in what the next chapter will bring. We look ahead with the same bold spirit that has shaped this first decade, grounded in place, driven by people, and committed to carrying the story of Negombo forward”.

Stasshani Jayawardena, Chairperson, Aitken Spence Hotels said “The story of Sentido Heritance Negombo has always been about more than a hotel. It is about a sense of place, rooted in heritage and community, elevated by the passionate and dedicated people who have helped shape this

property over the last ten years. ‘Decade One’ is a celebration of that journey and of the role the hotel continues to play in presenting Negombo to the world with authenticity, warmth, and pride”

As April arrives, Sri Lanka moves into a season shaped by renewal, reflection, and shared moments. Across the island, the rhythms of Avurudu return, with the sound of the raban, festive tables filled with sweetmeats and families coming together.

This Avurudu, Heritance Hotels & Resorts brings the season to life through a collection of stays, experiences, and gift giving, designed for spontaneous breaks and meaningful New Year getaways. Across its distinctive destinations, guests can step away, reconnect, and celebrate the season.

A range of gift vouchers offers a simple way to share the spirit of Avurudu, whether through a restful stay, a dining experience, or a moment of indulgence to be enjoyed beyond the season.

Along the southern coast, Heritance Ahungalla brings Avurudu to the coast with a lively festive atmosphere. From playful beachside moments and evening gatherings at the Paduru Party to cultural dances, drumming, games, and the Avurudu Kumara and Kumariya pageant, the celebrations unfold with energy and warmth. Special lunch and dinner buffets complete the experience, creating a coastal celebration shaped by flavour, tradition, and togetherness.

In the heart of the Cultural Triangle, Heritance Kandalama offers an Avurudu shaped by landscape, heritage, and discovery. Celebrations move from the lively Avurudu Ulela at the Eco Park to seasonal dining, elegant high tea, festive cookery moments, and village-led experiences that connect guests to the wider story of Sri Lankan life. Surrounded by nature and grounded in tradition, Kandalama offers a celebration that feels immersive, distinctly rooted in place.

By the western coast, Sentido Heritance Negombo brings Avurudu to life by the sea with a celebration designed around family, energy, and togetherness. Traditional games, cultural entertainment, and a festive village atmosphere set the tone for the day, while a generous buffet brings everyone together over seasonal flavours. It is a warm seaside expression of the New Year, where familiar customs unfold in a relaxed and joyful setting.

High in the hills, Heritance Tea Factory offers a distinctly different expression of Avurudu, shaped by cool mountain air, heritage spaces, and hill country traditions. Here, the season unfolds through festive beverages, cultural gatherings, family-friendly activities, and flavours that reflect both Sri Lankan and Tamil New Year customs. From the Hethersett Avurudu Ulela to sweetmeat stalls, bonfire evenings, and high tea, the celebrations feel intimate, playful, and closely connected to place.

Across each destination, Avurudu with Heritance Hotels & Resorts is shaped by the same idea, to create spaces where tradition feels present, natural, and shared. Whether by the sea, in the hills, or in the heart of the Cultural Triangle, each experience brings together heritage, flavour, family, and the unmistakable spirit of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.

Creating a Stress-Free Lifestyle https://www.heritancehotels.com/blog/creating-a-stress-free-lifestyle/ https://www.heritancehotels.com/blog/creating-a-stress-free-lifestyle/#respond Thu, 12 Mar 2026 09:35:49 +0000 https://www.heritancehotels.com/blog/?p=3548

Stress is a modern epidemic, yet Ayurveda views it as an imbalance that can be gently corrected day by day. At Heritance Ayurveda, the Ayubowan Stress-Relief Programme blends personalised treatments, mindful movement, and dosha-specific nutrition to calm the nervous system. Guests leave not only refreshed but equipped with simple habits they can weave into life back home.

Morning sets the rhythm. Doctors recommend waking before sunrise when the air is cool and Vata energy is calm. Three deep belly breaths on the balcony, followed by a cup of warm ginger-lime water, stoke digestion and clear mental fog. A five-minute self-Abhyanga with sesame oil nourishes skin, lubricates joints and signals the body that it is cared for—an antidote to chronic ‘fight-or-flight’.

Mid-day mini-practices to keep cortisol in check

  1. Swap the second coffee for herbal tea; it soothes digestion and cools overheated Pitta.
  2. Stand up every hour for a two-minute stretch—cat-cow, shoulder rolls, and gentle twists to release screen-bound tension.
  3. Eat lunch mindfully: place devices aside, chew thoroughly, and stop at 75 percent fullness, preventing the post-meal energy crash.

Evenings are designed for decompression. A light supper of warm vegetarian soup grounds restless Vata. Twenty rounds of alternate-nostril breathing calm the mind, while an early tech-curfew protects circadian rhythms. Guests learn to swap blue-light scrolling for journaling three gratitude, a proven mood stabilizer.

Back at the resort, immersive therapies intensify these effects. Shirodhara pours warm oil onto the forehead, synchronising brainwaves. Nasya clears mental fog, and a synchronized four-hand Abhyanga melts muscle armour built by long hours at a desk. Silent walks through Bawa’s garden corridors let the mind digest each healing touch.

Calm as a Daily Choice

Stress relief is not a one-time escape; it is a series of repeatable moments. Begin with one practice, morning oiling, lunchtime tea, or night-time breathwork. Feel better, add another. Over weeks, these micro-rituals compound, turning calm into a lifestyle rather than an occasional exclusivity.

Discover our curated Ayurvedic programmes and begin your journey to lasting wellbeing today.

Hot air ballooning from Heritance Kandalama https://www.heritancehotels.com/blog/hot-air-ballooning-from-heritance-kandalama/ https://www.heritancehotels.com/blog/hot-air-ballooning-from-heritance-kandalama/#respond Thu, 29 Jan 2026 05:03:06 +0000 https://www.heritancehotels.com/blog/?p=3446

Hot air ballooning from Heritance Kandalama is the kind of experience that changes the pace of everything. Before dawn breaks, you leave the hotel behind and step into the stillness of Dambulla’s early morning. The air is cool. The landscape is quiet. And then, in the soft half-light, you watch the balloon come alive.

There is a moment that feels almost ceremonial. The envelope unfurls. The first bursts of flame warm the air and colour the fabric. The basket waits. The crew moves with calm confidence. And as the sky begins to pale, you realise you are about to see Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle from a perspective few ever forget.

When you lift off, the world below becomes gentle. Paddy fields turn into patterns. Forest canopies stretch like velvet. In the distance, ancient silhouettes rise through the mist, and the horizon slowly fills with gold. It is peaceful in a way that feels rare, like the day is holding its breath just for you.

Then comes Kandalama. The lake glimmers beneath the morning light. The waterline curves through the landscape like a quiet signature. And Heritance Kandalama appears where you least expect it, embedded into rock and greenery, almost indistinguishable from the forest that surrounds it. From up here, Geoffrey Bawa’s vision becomes even clearer. The hotel is not placed on the land. It belongs to it. The disappearing act.

This is why the experience feels so romantic. Not because it tries to be, but because it gives you space to feel. The silence invites a hand to find another hand. The view makes small words feel brave. This is the kind of morning where you can say I love you and mean it in a new way. Where you can choose a moment to propose without rushing it. Where you can celebrate something personal with nothing but sky, light, and the island beneath you.

And when you land, the feeling stays. You return to Heritance Kandalama with the lake still in your eyes, the sunrise still on your skin, and a memory you will reach for long after the holiday ends.

If romance is a collection of moments, you never want to lose, this is one to keep.

Your Summer Island Getaway Begins in Sri Lanka https://www.heritancehotels.com/blog/your-summer-island-getaway-begins-in-sri-lanka/ https://www.heritancehotels.com/blog/your-summer-island-getaway-begins-in-sri-lanka/#respond Thu, 22 Jan 2026 06:36:32 +0000 https://www.heritancehotels.com/blog/?p=3402

Sri Lanka in summer is not one mood. It’s many and it brings bright, salt-lit afternoons on the west coast, cool mornings up in the hills, and a deep green forest landscapes that feels alive. It’s a season made for moving around the island and letting your days change shape. With Heritance Hotels and Resorts, your escape becomes a curated trail through Sri Lanka’s most distinctive settings, where architecture, landscape, flavour and atmosphere pull you in.

Heritance Kandalama is where the island feels most elemental. In the center of the cultural triangle, Geoffrey Bawa’s design is not placed on the rock, it belongs to it, vine-draped, grounded, and in constant conversation with the lake and forest beyond. Summer here is a balance of experience and discovery. Wake to birdsong and soft light across the water. Watch monkeys glide through the trees like they own the morning.

Days unfold through experiences shaped by both landscape and history. Naturalist-guided walks reveal birdlife, forest trails, and quiet viewpoints over Kandalama Lake, while nearby national parks offer memorable encounters with elephants and dry-zone wildlife. From here, Sri Lanka’s ancient heartlands are within reach. Anuradhapura, the island’s first kingdom, unfolds through vast monasteries, sacred stupas, and reservoirs that shaped early civilization. Polonnaruwa follows with its grand ruins, sculpted stonework, and vast irrigation systems that reflect a highly advanced ancient city. The Dambulla Cave Temple, carved into rock and painted with centuries-old murals, adds a spiritual dimension to days of exploration.

Evenings return to stillness at the hotel, where candlelit cave dining and Sri Lankan-inspired menus bring the day full circle, history outside, nature around you, and design holding it all together.

Then the hills take over, and the historic Heritance Tea Factory turns summer into a different rhythm entirely. Mornings are cooler and mist moves across tea fields like a slow curtain. This is where you come to walk, taste, sip and linger. Step onto the world-famous Pekoe Trail and let the landscape lead, plantation paths, beautiful stretches, sudden openings into views that make you stop and stare.

Summer here moves to the rhythm of the hills. Days are ideal for walking sections of the Pekoe Trail, where mist rolls over tea fields and every turn offers a new view, or venturing out to explore Nuwara Eliya and the surrounding Ramayana trail sites woven into the region’s legends. Tea culture becomes an experience in itself through guided tastings and stories that trace leaf to cup. As temperatures dip, evenings take on a romantic, old-world charm, from private dinners in a restored railway carriage to bonfire gatherings that turn the cool mountain air into part of the pleasure.

When the coast calls, Sentido Heritance Negombo brings an energetic tempo. This is summer with movement and colour, the shoreline, the lagoon, the town, and the daily pulse of a place that has always lived by the sea. Days can start with a barefoot walk at dawn and end with sunset drinks as the horizon shifts. Between those moments, Negombo offers the kind of easy variety that makes a holiday feel full without feeling packed: coastal culture, local life, and plenty of reasons to step out and return again.

Negombo’s summer energy is shaped by the sea and the town beside it. Mornings reveal fishing boats returning to shore, while days invite exploration of lagoon life, historic streets, markets, and coastal traditions. Back at the hotel, dining becomes social and sea-facing, with fresh flavours and relaxed settings that reflect the town’s spirit. Evenings ease into live music, sunset drinks, and a gentle buzz that makes time stretch comfortably into the night.

Further down the coastline, Heritance Ahungalla is seaside summer with space, elegance, and the unmistakable confidence of Bawa’s design language. The setting encourages you to slow down, not because there is nothing to do, but because everything feels better when you’re not rushing. Days move between pool, beach, and shaded lawns, with the sea never far from view. It’s the perfect spot for coastal experiences that add life to your stay, river and mangrove moments, craft and culture nearby and the kind of excursions that feel easy to slip into a summer adventure.

Ahungalla connects seaside relaxation with the cultural heritage of Sri Lanka’s south. The region is known for its traditional mask-making, where kolam and devil masks are still carved and painted for ritual dance and storytelling. Visits to nearby artisan workshops and cultural villages reveal the meaning behind these forms, while river safaris through mangroves, turtle conservation sites, and coastal communities add texture to summer days. Evenings return to romantic seaside dining and an unhurried coastal calm.

And then there is Heritance Ayurveda, a Bawa property which offers summer’s mindful answer. This is where you go when you want your holiday to feel restorative, not just enjoyable. The pace is different from the moment you arrive. Days are shaped by personal attention and ancient wisdom, consultations, therapies, herbs, oils, monk led meditation and food designed to support balance.

There is no need for a packed schedule here. The experience is the schedule. You move through your days with purpose, and you leave feeling lighter, calmer, clearer. For travelers who want to return from summer not only refreshed, but genuinely reset, this is the place that makes that possible.

Across all five properties, one thread holds the season together: choice. You can chase wildlife and ancient landscapes, then trade it for tea trails and cool mist. You can choose the liveliness of the coast, then retreat into uniquely designed calm. You can spend a week in motion or build a quieter journey of renewal that gives you space to breathe.

However you shape it, Heritance makes summer feel personal, considered, and deeply Sri Lankan.

This is Sri Lanka in Summer 2026.

This is Your Summer Island Getaway.

How do we make Ayurveda accessible to first timers?

  • Warm welcome consultations from ayurvedic doctors ease you into the process with kindness and clarity.
  • Introductory yoga and meditation sessions are gentle and guided, no previous experience needed.
  • Educational sessions and cooking classes help guests learn the “why” behind each therapy or dish.
  • Flexible treatment plans allow space for rest, exploration, or simply doing nothing at all.
  • Nature-based experiences, from walks through the garden to meditating by the ocean, gently connect you to yourself.

It’s not about perfection, it’s about awareness.

We’re not here to push rigid rules or extreme routines. Ayurveda is a celebration of balance, and at Heritance Ayurveda, that balance starts with meeting you where you are. All You Want for Christmas: Heritance Holidays Across Sri Lanka https://www.heritancehotels.com/blog/all-you-want-for-christmas-heritance-holidays-across-sri-lanka/ https://www.heritancehotels.com/blog/all-you-want-for-christmas-heritance-holidays-across-sri-lanka/#respond Tue, 16 Dec 2025 06:10:23 +0000 https://www.heritancehotels.com/blog/?p=3365

As the island slips into its most enchanting season, Heritance Hotels & Resorts invites you to celebrate where tradition meets vibrant locations, jungles veiled in mist, tea hills lit by sustainable ornaments, and coastlines glowing at golden hour. Across our Sri Lankan collection, the holidays unfold as generous tables, thoughtful rituals and moments that linger long after the last carol.

Discovering Ayurvedic Dining

At Heritance Kandalama, nature sets the rhythm with so much do. Greet the day with a guided climb and picnic at Aligala Rock, then drift into terrace high tea with lake-and-jungle views. Evenings bring spirited tastings by the pool and intimate “grill in the wild” dinners under the canopy. Christmas Eve gathers families around for an abundant feast whilst Christmas Day warms with a relaxed lunch. New Year’s Eve crescendos in a lively culinary celebration, followed by a calm reset—detox sips by the water and a sunset high tea to welcome the year.

Discovering Ayurvedic Dining

High in Kandapola, Heritance Tea Factory celebrates where mist meets memory. Bonfire nights glow with s’mores and mulled wine, while the Goodies Hut brims with cakes, hampers, and keepsakes. Seasonal high teas unfold against the slopes; Christmas Eve shimmers with champagne toasts, playful “Santa” cocktails, and curated cheese-and-wine pairings. Christmas Eve culminates in an elegant gala; Christmas Day invites a hearty family buffet. As the year turns, create your own tea-infused cocktails, sample a curated wine flight, and welcome midnight with colonial charm and mountain magic.

Discovering Ayurvedic Dining

Along the southern coast, Heritance Ahungalla is Christmas by the sea. The season lights up with carols and tree glow, then settles into “very merry” high teas, unique cakes and spirited local tastings beneath the palms. Families gather for cupcake workshops, beach cocktail hours, and mixology nights that sparkle at golden hour. Christmas Eve sets in through flavour whilst Christmas Day brings a festive lunch, sunset melodies, and dinner by the shore. After a sparkling Boxing Day and wine discoveries, the year closes with a grand seaside gala, music, fireworks, and a midnight sky stitched with celebration.

Discovering Ayurvedic Dining

On the west coast, Sentido Heritance Negombo carries the beachfront spirit with equal flair. Expect sunset gatherings that spill into elegant festive teas, ocean-breezed dinners with live music, and coastal menus that pair seasonal favourites with sea views. Afternoons invite easy promenades and café stops; evenings glow with convivial countdowns and seaside cheer. It’s the relaxed, contemporary way to celebrate, where the city’s energy meets the hush of the shore for Christmas and the New Year.

Heritance Kandalama, one of Sri Lanka’s most celebrated architectural and sustainable hotels, has been awarded a prestigious distinction in the Michelin Guide, joining a select list of only 17 high-quality hotels across the island recognised for their excellence in design, hospitality, and guest experience.

Being featured on the Michelin Guide represents one of the highest forms of recognition in global leisure and travel. The honour celebrates hotels that embody the finest standards of quality and character, a hallmark that has defined Michelin’s legacy for more than a century.

Designed by Deshamanya Geoffrey Bawa, Heritance Kandalama stands as a masterpiece of tropical modernism, seamlessly blending architecture with nature. Set within the heart of Sri Lanka’s famed Cultural Triangle, the resort overlooks the tranquil Kandalama Lake and the forested hills of Dambulla, offering guests an experience where heritage, sustainability, and sophistication coexist effortlessly.

Heritance Kandalama continues to shape Sri Lanka’s hospitality landscape through its pioneering approach to eco-exclusivity. The resort holds the country’s longest continually certified Environmental Management System (ISO 14001), maintained since 1996, and is a Travelife Gold certified property, recognised by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC). Standing as a benchmark in regenerative tourism, it empowers local communities, protects biodiversity, and redefines responsible hospitality through every detail.

For over three decades, Heritance Kandalama has redefined what it means to live in harmony with the environment and this distinction by the Michelin Guide reaffirms its place among the world’s finest hotels and as a timeless symbol of Sri Lankan hospitality.
